How Does Water Conditioning Work?

Water conditioning is a catch-all phrase that encompasses many different methods of water treatment – from physically removing specific contaminants with a water filter to biologically softening water with natural methods, such as salt, to treating water with ultraviolet light.

At Ayers, we have experience in several different types of water conditioning solutions using:

WATER SOFTENERS

Water softeners are a type of water filtration systems that remove unwanted minerals like calcium, magnesium and iron from your water. These minerals can leave stains in toilets, create build up on fixtures and make washing difficult. Water softeners are a time trusted way to deliver mineral free water throughout your system.

DISINFECTION

Some water sources need a continuous disinfection system to make the water safe to drink. We offer multiple options in sterilizing or disinfecting your water to provide the peace of mind in knowing that your water is bacteria free.

CARTRIDGE FILTERS

One of the most common types of water filtration systems. This system can be customized to best handle the specific issues your water system may be experiencing.

IRON REMOVAL SYSTEMS

Using both oxidation and water filtration, this system is ideal for water that has a heavy concentration of iron. It provides filtration without the use of chemicals.

Reverse Osmosis

Using filters and pressure, water is forced through a membrane removing up to 98% of unwanted contaminants in your drinking water.

AUTOMATIC FILTERS

Automatic whole house water filters equipped with specific medias can be a low maintenance way to provide your home or business with clean water.

PH REGULATION

Water with a low pH level is acidic and can be very detrimental to your plumbing and fixtures. We can provide systems that will raise the pH to ensure the longevity of your pipes and appliances.

Why is Well Water Conditioning Important?

Groundwater, by its very nature, is a product of the minerals that surround it. While much of the earth serves as a filter for well water, this natural filtering process often leaves behind organic materials like limescale, iron, calcium and magnesium that can affect the taste, odor and appearance of the drinking water that comes out of your tap.

Over time, these minerals can also lead to deposit build up on your entire plumbing system. This can result in premature wear on water-loving appliances and equipment – including washing machines, faucets, the kitchen or bathroom sink, and more.

For those in commercial settings, this wear can multiply across dozens of fixtures throughout a facility or manufacturing operation. If your manufacturing facility utilizes water to run or clean equipment – that untreated water can also cause maintenance problems down the road; problems including scale buildup, corrosion and costly downtime.

This is where water treatment systems deliver results. Water conditioning treats water at the source – removing excessive mineral content and water contaminants to bring the water quality back to its purest state.

FAQ

  • Do water conditioners really work?

If you’re wondering if your water conditioning system is really working, have your water tested both before and after having the system installed. Results should show a reduction in the minerals present prior to conditioning your water.

  • Can you drink conditioned water?

Absolutely. If you run a business, and plan to use your system for drinking water, make sure to let your Ayers rep know. That way we can design a water treatment solution that meets your unique needs. In residential settings, often a water softening system is the best choice. If you have hard water problems, the difference between drinking soft water compared to hard water is night and day. Our commercial customers sometimes combine a water softening system with other filtration systems.

  • What does it mean to condition water?

Conditioning water means removing excessive or harmful chemicals, and minerals from the water, including biological contaminants, limescale, iron and calcium.

  • What are the types of water conditioning systems?

Ayers offers several different types of water conditioning systems, including reverse osmosis, filtration systems, point of entry systems, and more.

  • What is the difference between water conditioning and water softening?

Water softening is a type of water conditioning. Water conditioning can take many forms – including utilizing chemicals to treat water and remove chemicals and contaminants. Water softening utilizes a brine substance to remove hard-water minerals such as calcium and magnesium from water.

  • Should I get a water softener or a conditioner?

We get asked this a lot. Whether it's water filters to remove specific contaminants, or you just want better water quality. We can help you decide what’s best for your home or business, depending on your needs.
